Why might I need counselling?
Throughout the course of our lives we often find ourselves presented with difficult and challenging circumstances that can feel overwhelming. This can subsequently affect our quality of life for one reason or another.
Counselling therapy (also known as 'talking therapy') provides an opportunity to explore areas in your life that are, or have been, problematic. This is offered in a confidential, safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment. It can help individuals to gain clarity and understanding of their situation, as well as empowering them to make changes that have a positive effect on their lives, and promote their mental and physical well-being - as these two are intrinsically linked.
It is often beneficial to explore our feelings to identify if there are any underlying emotional issues that maybe exacerbating your symptoms and impeding your recovery. Counselling can help facilitate recovery, as well as better management of potentially life changing conditions.
Why counselling therapy might be suggested as an option for you?
Here are just some of the underlying issues that can, and often do have a massive impact upon our ability to recover and to cope with day to day life:
Stress
Anxiety and panic attacks
Depression
Living with Chronic Pain
Illness
Low self esteem
Relationship issues/ breakdown
Eating disorders
Bereavement and loss
Sexuality and gender concerns
Addictions
Surviving traumatic events
Work/ life imbalance
I am worried that people will think I am mad!
I would like to dispel the myth that only mad people access counselling. Sadly this is often what stops those that really need it from seeking help. It is not unusual to find ourselves stuck in certain ways of thinking. This can hamper our ability to move past problems and go forward in a more productive and fulfilling way.
I will be very happy to discuss any of the above, and whether counselling might be of benefit to you. Use the book online section to get in touch.
